SOLITAIRE MILES “REINDEER IN RHYTHM”

SOLITAIRE MILES

WAV: “Reindeer in Rhythm”

A Christmas Swing Tune with an Animated Cartoon.

“Reindeer in Rhythm” was composed by Chicago Swing vocalist Solitaire Miles and Parisian guitarist and arranger Martin Gioani. The song was inspired by a children’s holiday poem by Timothy Toucher, and re-created with new lyrics by Miles, while the musical arrangement was scripted by Gioani, who also plays both gypsy guitars, bass and drums on the track. Composed and created long distance from Paris to Chicago, the song was finally mixed by Steve Yates for Seraphic Records. It’s a fast little frolic, a little over 2 minutes for radio play – charming old and young alike. It tells the story of Santa’s aging reindeer after many years of service, and how he’s decided to hold tryouts for some new recruits at the North Pole.

Holly Tunes
Self-Released

WAV: “Deck The Halls”
ISRC: QMAAK2543058

For years, fans have asked guitarist Wayne Wilkinson to record a Christmas album. Now Holly Tunes delivers a joyful new holiday collection. It’s Christmas through the voice of the guitar – lyrical and inviting — supported by bass and drums in the timeless trio format. Piano and organ add sparkle and soul while strings lift carols into moments of beauty and reflection.

Holly Tunes captures the full spirit of the holidays and is a long-awaited gift to listeners: swinging favorites that bring joy, nostalgia, and cheer along with reimagined sacred carols. Listening feels like stepping into a timeless holiday film where the glow of vintage Americana meets sophisticated jazz harmonies.

Inspired by Joe Pass’s iconic Six-String Santa, Holly Tunes is perfect for listeners who want the spirit of Christmas wrapped in warmth, elegance, style, and a touch of swing, whether they’re a lifelong jazz listener or just discovering the beauty of these melodies in a new way.

BRENT LAIDLER The Boiler Sessions "Coventry Carol”

BRENT LAIDLER
The Boiler Sessions

WAV: “Coventry Carol”
ISRC: none

My association with Purdue Bands over the years has been a privilege, especially the Jazz Department.

I’ve performed with the faculty and many current and former students here and there.  Right now, there is a group of students who are particularly special – they have been the “House Band” for the Tony Zamora Jazz Scholarship that I administrate, they’ve been active on the local scene coming to jam sessions and I’ve even called them for gigs which were great fun.

I’ve been wanting to check out a local studio that opened in town a few years ago and mentioned to my good friend and musical journey advisor, Kate Smith, that I was thinking about recording a tune there with them just to remember it all.  She strongly suggested we do a whole album, which is in the works.

For now, though, please enjoy what will become a bonus track on “The Boiler Sessions.”

I arranged the traditional Holiday classic “Coventry Carol” with these talented musicians in mind – none of whom are actually majoring in music.  Dan Gui – trumpet, Seth DeWhitt – tenor sax, Austin Choi – piano, Grace O’Neil – bass and Carl Neilson filling in for this session on drums.

Lucy Smith Quartet "Singing Christmas"

LUCY SMITH QUARTET
Singing Christmas
Living Music

WAV: Let There Be Peace on Earth
ISRC: QM9AA1699800

Chicagoan Lucy Smith goes to church in “Singing Christmas,” the singer digging deeply into the spiritual side of seasonal repertoire. The austere beauty of her version of “Silent Night,” the gospel fervor she brings to “Jesus Gonna Be Here” and the imploring quality of her singing in “Rise Up, Shepherd and Follow” explore the meaning of faith. The unadorned beauty of Smith’s work, as well as her inclusion of less-familiar repertoire, distinguish “Singing Christmas,” making it a testament to what the holiday signifies. – Howard Reich Chicago Tribune
Miguel de León "Samba de Natal"

MIGUEL DE LEON
Samba de Natal
Self-Release

WAV: “A Christmas Samba” (English)
4:12
ISRC: QM9A92038638

Raised in a musical Mexican American family, Miguel de León remembers connecting deeply to the sounds of music he heard around him while growing up: the radio hits of Mexican artists in his parent’s record collection, and hearing recordings of Sergio Mendes & Brazil 66. In 1985 Miguel made his first trip to Brazil and was enraptured by the people, the culture, and the music. Miguel’s goal is to use his gift of music as a means to bridge the gap between different musical styles and languages, continually exploring and learning about the world of music. To that end, Miguel now releases, for the holidays, in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian – as well as an Instrumental version – SAMBA DE NATAL.
